Welcome to the Canada category of Trieste Books. Canada is renowned for its vast, unspoilt landscapes and multicultural heritage. Although most of Canada is made up of forests, it also has more lakes than any other country, and is also famous for its Rocky Mountains, prairies and a sparsely populated archipelago that extends to the Arctic. Founded by the French explorer Jacques Cartier in 1534, Canada originates from a French colony on the site of present-day Quebec, originally inhabited by indigenous peoples. After a period of British colonization, the Canadian confederation was born from the union of the three British colonies (which were previously territories of New France). Canada gained independence from the United Kingdom through a peace process that lasted from 1867 to 1982. Canada is washed by the Pacific, Atlantic and Arctic oceans. In the south and northwest, the country borders the United States - this border is the longest common border in the world. In addition, Canada has borders with Denmark (Greenland) in the northeast and France (Saint Pierre and Miquelon) in the east. The aborigines of the Canadian territories were Indian tribes (Abenaki, Aticameca, Algonquin, Athabascan, Hurons, Iroquois, Mohawks, Mikmak, Naskapi), whose legacy remains today the name of the country (the word kanata in the language of the Indians is a village, settlement). Indian tribes, differing in culture, language, customs and occupation, are the indigenous inhabitants of Canada. Ottawa was founded in the 20s of the 19th century (the capital - since 1867) in the province of Ontario on the river of the same name. Until 1854 it was known as Bytown. There are two universities in Ottawa - English and French, and the National Gallery. The city of Toronto was founded in 1749 and is famous for one of the largest universities in Canada. Most of the country's attractions are concentrated in the two oldest cities - Montreal and Quebec, located on the St. Lawrence River. Montreal arose on the site of the fortified settlement of St. Lawrence Iroquoian Hochelaga ("beaver dam"). Among the architectural monuments, The Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours Chapel (1655) and Basilique Notre-Dame de Montréal (1829), famous for their luxurious interior decoration, stand out. Attractions include the Mont Royal in the city center. From the top of this mountain, Jacques Cartier and his companions once opened up magnificent views of the Canadian landscapes - the immense virgin forests and corn fields of the indigenous population. Trieste Books offers a broad collection of books on travel in Canada. Among them you can find tomes such as: “Hand-Book For The City Of Montreal And Its Environs” by S. E. Dawson; S.
