The Natural History of Atheism

The natural history of atheism – is a book written by John Stuart Blackie, who was a Scottish scholar, intellectual and man of letters. This book contains a detailed history of atheism, about its origin, development and popularity over the centuries. What is atheism? As a theory, in relation to the nature and structure of the universe, this word means either that something powerful, everything was produced from nothing, no one knows how, and continues to turn into something, no one knows how; or that it has existed eternally and will exist eternally, as a mighty tangled aggregate of something acting, called force, and something that is acted upon, called matter; but it does not take its form for any reasonable or deliberate reason, simply by blind chance; or, at least, that it is a self-existent combination of forces and the results of forces, about which in their unity no meaningful explanation can be given. The book consists of 6 chapters, which deal with important topics for understanding atheism. The first chapter is Presumptions. The second chapter deals with the topic Theism, its Reasonable Ground. The third chapter covers the topic Atheism, its Varieties and Common Root. The fours chapter is about Polytheism. The fifth chapter is about Buddhism. The last sixth chapter covers several topics such as The Atheism of Reaction; Modern English Atheists and Agnostics; Martineau and Tyndall.
