What Baptists Believe; The New Hampshire Confession, an Exposition

What Baptists believe – is a book, which was published in 1913 and written by O. C. S. Wallace, pastor of First Baptist Church in Baltimore, USA. This book is for young people. Its eighteen chapters can be seen as expanded paraphrases of the eighteen articles of the New Hampshire Confession of Faith. There are many repetitions. They are related to those fundamental truths that are closely related to some of the articles. For this reason, and also because the whole purpose here is to teach, and repetition is necessary in teaching, there has been no attempt to avoid repetition. Each chapter is divided into numbered sections, and there are questions at the end of the chapter that correspond to those sections. Those who wish to study the Scriptures upon which the declarations of the New Hampshire Confession are based will find them quoted in connection with several articles. These articles are printed before the respective chapters. This Confession was chosen for this purpose because it is the formula of Christian truth most commonly used as the standard in Baptist churches across the country for expressing what they believe according to Scripture. For ease of comparison and study, an Appendix has been added that presents the Abstract of Principles of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky.
