Book description
The voice and spiritual education – is a book, which was published in 1914 and written by Hiram Corson, an American professor of literature.
Although the purpose of this little book is to emphasize the importance of vocal culture in relation to literary and general culture, it is not the purpose of teaching eloquence.
Attention is drawn to several features of the subject which, if implemented in any voice, would greatly contribute to the technical part, at least to good reading.
Particular attention is paid to the importance of spiritual education as the goal towards which all education should be directed, and as a necessary condition for interpretive reading.
Such an education is required in order to respond to and assimilate the informative life of any work of literary genius.
By spiritual, the author means the essential, absolute being of a person and includes in this term the emotional, receptive or impressionable, sympathetic, instinctive, intuitive, in short, the whole area of the non-intellectual, non-discursive.
