Book description
This book is a biographical sketch of Henry Bell's life which was published in 1844 and written by Edward Morris.
Henry Bell was a Scottish engineer who launched Europe's first commercially successful steamboat.
28 Ton Comet - Bell's own steamer, launched from the port of Glasgow in 1812.
Subsequently, this steamer carried passengers and goods along the Clyde River.
The success of this vessel marked the beginning of the era of shipping in Europe.
The following sketch of Henry Bell's life is intended to acquaint the Englishmen, Scotsmen and Irishmen with the hard work and the salutary results of the work of the individual Scotsman.
He comes from a humble family and whose zeal for maturing one of the greatest inventions ever conceived by man is well known to the people of Glasgow, but not to the British nation.
