About the Book

To whom comes the end of centuries - that is, the end of one century and the beginning of another. This is our position today. In all directions, the old order is giving way to the new. This was the case in the days of the Primitive Church when the typical institutions of the Levitical system were replaced by "the heavenly things themselves." So it was at the time when our story begins. Samuel's story is a divine pause between the days of the judges and King David. Until now, the High Priesthood has been the supreme authority recognized in the Jewish Commonwealth. Moses, his founder, of course, could not have had a successor; but Aaron was the first of a continuous line of priests. No other position was appropriate for all of Israel. However, the era of Moses was not destined to end with the reign of the Priest, who rarely combined priestly functions with the special qualities that make up a great leader and ruler.
