Oliver Newman: A New-England Tale (Unfinished), with Other Poetical Remains

Book description
This book is poetical remains of the late Robert Southey.
He was an English poet of the Romantic school, and Poet laureate.
The main poem of this volume, Oliver Newman, was well known to many of the friends of the late poet laureate.
It is assumed that at least those people who have heard him read passages from this collection with his peculiar and very expressive intonation will welcome with pleasure, although not devoid of melancholy, this is his last, albeit imperfect, poetic work. Of the other passages collected here, “Fragmentary Thoughts occasioned by his Son's Death” and “Short Passages of Scripture” are printed both to provide new evidence of the purity and sublimity of his character, and for their own inner beauty.
It was natural that a writer with such an energetic mind as the late poet laureate would leave many unfinished projects.
