Charles Francis Adams, 1835-1915: an autobiography

Charles Francis Adams, 1835-1915 - is an autobiography, which was written by Charles Francis Adams Jr., completed in 1912 and published posthumously in 1916. Charles Francis Adams Jr. was an American writer and historian. He was the son of Charles Francis Adams Sr., an American historical editor, writer, politician, and diplomat of the famous Adams family. He also served as a colonel in the Union Army during the American Civil War, and after the war he was a railroad regulator and manager, as well as a historical author and a member of the Massachusetts Park Commission. In 1913, Mr. Adams sent to the Massachusetts Historical Society a sealed packet containing an "autobiographical sketch" to serve as material for a memoir to be prepared for publication in the Proceedings of the Society when the opportunity arose. This essay was so complete and characteristic of the writer that it did not need the additions of a biographer. At the beginning of this autobiography is a memorial speech about Adams, written by Henry Cabot Lodge, an American Republican politician, historian and statesman from Massachusetts.
