Book description

The Cantonese made easy – is a book which was written by James Dyer Ball. He was a Hong Kong scholar and writer born in Canton. James Dyer Ball is known for his works on Chinese culture and for his contributions to the development of the Cantonese Romanization system. James Dyer Ball also was considered the most capable and knowledgeable European language, speaking the Cantonese dialect of his time. This book is the third edition published in 1904. It should be noted that some additions have been made to this edition. The most complete attention was paid to those most important tones - options that are part of the language itself; and whose very existence was most reluctantly acknowledged by foreigners - they were still largely denied recognition, and yet it is impossible to speak Chinese (Cantonese) correctly without constant use of them. A book can be written about their use and encounters. It is imperative to use the correct titles and forms of address when talking with natives of a different status or when talking about their compatriots of a different social status, a list of forms of treatment used in conversation with people themselves, whether relatives or strangers, as well as ways of mentioning them when talking about them is one of the new features in this edition. Another list is a randomized list of words that are used very often, but very few of them appear in our Chinese dictionaries. It is hoped that these and other additions and changes will make the book even more useful in the future than in the past. This book consists of such parts as: Introduction; Lessons; Grammar and Appendix.
