Book description
Cannibal-Land – is a travelogue, which describes aboriginal life in the New Hebrides.
It was published in 1922 and written by Martin Elmer Johnson.
Martin Elmer Johnson and Osa Helen Johnson were an American adventure couple and documentary filmmaker.
In the first half of the 20th century, they attracted the attention of the public with their films and books about adventures in exotic distant lands.
Martin and Osa, as photographers, explorers, naturalists, and writers, have studied the wildlife and peoples of East and Central Africa, British North Borneo, and the South Pacific Islands.
They explored then unknown lands and brought film and photographs with them, giving many Americans their first glimpse of these distant lands.
This book is about the New Hebrides, officially the New Hebrides Condominium, was the colonial name for a group of islands in the South Pacific that is now Vanuatu.
The book is narrated in the first person by Martin Elmer Johnson, where he details his journey with Osa.
The book also includes amazing photographs of aboriginal life in the New Hebrides.
