Advanced English Grammar – is a text-book written by Thomas Morrison, who was a Rector of the Free Church Training College, Glasgow. In creating this text-book, the author's goal was to provide the following three aspects. The first aspect is clarity and simplicity of definition, which in no subject are more essential than in grammar. The second aspect is completeness of information combined with suitable brevity. The textbook is intended primarily for use in the upper grades of public and private schools. Thus, to provide completeness of information on all significant issues of English grammar and at the same time, brevity was steadily maintained in each school book. Third aspect: Exercises selected from classic English authors. In all English textbooks, exercises must be correctly chosen to familiarize the scholar with selected examples of classic English. The author believes that no such textbook contains so many elegant passages from standard English writers. In addition to grammatical value, the author hopes that the textbook has a special literary value that will commend to teachers of young people.
