This book is a biographical sketch of Robert R. Livingston, which was published in 1876 and written by Frederic de Peyster. Frederic de Peyster was a New York City lawyer, president of the New York Historical Society and prominent member of the De Peyster family. Robert Robert Livingston was an American lawyer, politician, diplomat from New York, and one of the Founding Fathers of the United States. Livingston was known as "The Chancellor" after his high New York State legal office for 25 years. He was also a member of the Committee of Five that drafted the Declaration of Independence along with Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Benjamin Franklin and Roger Sherman. Livingston swore an oath to George Washington when he became president in 1789.
