Saint John Henry Newman (21 February 1801 to 11 August 1890) was an English theologian and poet, who became an Anglican priest and later became a Roman Catholic priest and cardinal. He was an important and controversial figure in the religious history of England during the nineteenth century. Knownthroughout the UK by the mid-1830s, the Roman Catholic Church canonised him as a saint in in 2019.
