Book description
Newman's essay challenges English learners for three reasons.
The first is his eminence as a stylist, the second is his attempt to define fundamental poetic principles, and the third is the inclusion of ancient and modern writers in a single point of view.
Newman is deservedly considered a master of clear, plentiful, direct and energetic prose.
The simple masculinity of his more popular works contrasts favorably with the affectation and caprice of many of his contemporaries, and his qualities will never become outdated, whatever the judgments of descendants in the opinion of some authors.
From his acquaintance with language and literature, he received the ideas of a prince among people, as well as the accuracy of grammar.
Breathing thoughts and burning words with which he became acquainted immediately revived his mind and expanded his sphere, so that he became capable of reasoning both thoroughly and subtly.
Concerning to Poetry, With a Reference to Aristotle's Poetry, the authors offered some of their own reflections on Greek tragedy and poetry in general, as suggested by Aristotle's doctrine on this subject.
