Book description
About the Book
Shakespeare's poems (apart from sonnets) received relatively little attention from his biographers and editors. They were often omitted from editions of his work, and when included, they were rarely adequately discussed and commented on. Of the individual editions of Wyndham, it seems to be the only one of any critical significance. I tried to treat them as carefully as the plays. Early Readings are given in sufficient detail for all grades of students; and the same can be said of the introduction and footnotes, in which I have sought to make up for the shortcomings of other editors. Lucretia needs nothing, and Venus and Adonis will not admit it without serious injury. Of course, these poems will never be read either in high school or in Shakespeare's clubs...
