This is the fourth book in a series of Manuals designed to meet the public demand for a simple exposition of Theosophical teachings, written by Annie Besant and published in 1895. Some have complained that Theosophical literature is both too complex, technically, and too expensive for the average reader, and the authors hope that the current series can succeed in meeting a very real need. Theosophy is not only for scientists, it is for everyone. Perhaps among those who first see this teaching in these little books, there may be some who will be encouraged to delve deeper into his philosophy, his science and his religion, facing his difficult problems with the diligence of a student. But these guides are not written for the eager learner who cannot be put off by any initial difficulties. They are written for the busy men and women of the everyday world and seek to clarify some of the great truths that make life and death easier.
