The world war, its causes, as well as the immediate and probable results are discussed from a psychological point of view from the point of view of a patriotic Frenchman. Gustave Le Bon emphasizes the danger of "state intervention", expressed in socialist or syndicalist theories, and the need for individual initiative, internal discipline and unity of purpose in national development. These qualities must be achieved through education, which must be "character training" and not just the intellect, the possibility of which is illustrated by Prussia in its unification of the minds of Germany.
