Book description
Summa Theologica is the fundamental philosophical and theological treatise of Thomas Aquinas.
It was started in 1265 and was not completed by the time of the author's death.
The Summa Theologica is the main work of one of the 36 Doctors of the Catholic Church, whose contribution to theology Pope Benedict XV characterized with the words: "The Church proclaimed the doctrine of Thomas Aquinas as her doctrine."
The Summa Theologica is also known for its five proofs of the existence of God (viae quinque).
According to his original plan, Thomas Aquinas thought to compile only a “beginner's guide”, in which, under one cover, the presentation and consideration of all the main theological teachings of his time would be concentrated.
In fact, the theologian compiled a fundamental set of practically all the problems of Christian theology in the West, which he subjected to a scrupulous scholastic analysis.
This book is not exactly the "Summa Theologica", but an index to passages in Holy Scripture quoted in the "Summa Theologica" or of which the doctrine of the "Summa" furnishes an explanation.
