Book description

The last confessions of Marie Bashkirtseff and her correspondence with Guy de Maupassant written by Marie Bashkirtseff and edited by Jeannette Leonard Gilder. Jeannette Leonard Gilder was an American author, editor, critic and journalist of late 19th and early 20th centuries. Marie Bashkirtseff was an Ukrainian and French artist, master of genre painting in 19th century, as well as the author of the famous "Diary". This book consists exclusively of the correspondence of Ms. Bashkirtseva. In this volume of Marie Bashkirtseff's "Confessions", the records have all of her characteristics. Perhaps the most striking pages of the book are devoted to the correspondence between Marie and Guy de Maupassant. She never saw the writer, and he never saw her. She knew him only from his books and, it would seem, knowledge that is unlikely to arouse the confidence of a young girl. This book also includes a short biographical sketch of this famous woman, and her correspondence allows us to see her interesting and extraordinary personality.
