Book description
The Grace And Duty Of Being Spiritually Minded, Declared And Practically Improved – work of John Owen, an English Nonconformist church leader, theologian, and academic administrator at the University of Oxford in 17th century.
During a time of such severe discomfort that author anticipated the end of his earthly labors, he composed several meditations for himself.
When he recovered, he began to preach these meditations to his community.
They were subsequently published as this treatise. This treatise is one of the finest works by John Owen.
It shows the same sharp distinction between human motives and character, but its main purpose is to raise believers above earthly objects and console them in the current trials.
It also contains some passages that, in solemn tenderness and beauty, do not surpass all the writings of the author, who here not so much defends the Gospel, but Barnabas, who intends to comfort of the saints.
This book can rightfully be called one of the best books on Protestant spirituality.
It contains many recommendations on how to habituate your mind to spiritual things.
