Book description

In our children's and national schools, it has been proven that the method of teaching with toys is so effective that it becomes more and more universal every day. Our earliest and most lasting impressions remain at home; and the purpose of this little work is to help those who lack the leisure or opportunity to inculcate a young mind into habits of thinking and learning in a way that is most likely to benefit them. Most mothers know how dangerous and difficult it is to keep their children out of trouble and steer their young minds in the right direction; For this purpose, toys have long been used as innocent entertainment, but they sometimes fail or soon break or break down because their value is either not understood or not felt properly, and a habit of destructiveness is carelessly engendered, which can ultimately be detrimental on the future character of the child. But when they are taught to design toys for themselves, they are more likely to be appreciated, and the habit of keeping them should be carefully encouraged and encouraged. The author tried to give this work an extremely practical character and, with the help of pen and pencil, made the directions so clear that they could be understood by a youthful mind; at the same time, I have selected items that may be attractive not only to children, but also to other people of a more mature age. A child who has been given appropriate instructions for making his own doll clothes, toy furniture, bedding, etc., will soon become proud of doing them properly, and thus acquire knowledge of the most useful and practical nature. Older girls will find something to entertain themselves on these pages. There is nothing better than seeing a house neatly and tastefully decorated by the hands of its inhabitants; while cultivating hardworking and rewarding habits is not only satisfying as it allows young ladies to decorate their homes while spending their leisure time profitably, but also provides the means to make suitable gifts to their friends or to receive pleasant satisfaction, as well as to replenish their skill foundations of some charitable or charitable institution. The plan and ideas of the work are very original, and in this the author was greatly helped by her daughter, Miss Alice Landells. Directions and illustrations for dressing up dolls, furnishing houses, etc., as well as many of the more decorative toys entirely created by her; and the way she accomplished this part of the work will undoubtedly be appreciated for its overall usefulness and completeness. The author's sincere desire was to make this book practical in every way, and the job was made easier and easier, although the author felt that this little book could be a vehicle for instilling young habits that lay the foundation for usefulness in the afterlife.
