Book description

This Handbook is compiled, firstly, for Communicators; and, secondly, to be used by people present at the “celebration of the Holy Eucharist” for worship without communion. The arguments for and against the practice of allowing Christians who were not going to commune at the time to attend the Eucharistic sacrifice cannot be considered here. The compiler of this Guide is fully convinced that English clergy, as well as members of any other part of the Catholic Church throughout the world, have an unquestionable right to remain worshiping their Lord - to "manifest His death" and to plead for His all-conquering merits, while the Great Sacrifice of the dispensation of the Gospel is committed, regardless of whether they are committed in each case or not. It is sometimes said that encouraging this practice is to lead people to a substitute for attending the Sacrament Sacrifice. This theory has undoubtedly been sufficiently tested over the past two or three hundred years. Christians were actually expelled from the Church at the beginning of the main and only divinely appointed act of Christian worship. But did this practice lead to our people truly appreciating the Holy Eucharist and becoming Communion? The answer is uncommunicative England. Moreover, most even parishioners simply ignore one characteristic act of Christian worship altogether and satisfy their conscience by attending morning and evening songs and listening to sermons. They have learned to forget what they have never seen or joined. A growing number of English clerics believe that a different and better result can be obtained by returning to more Catholic practice; and that if our people can stay and worship their incarnate Savior in the Blessed Sacrament of the altar, they will not rest long until they also enjoy their Sacrifice, try and see how merciful they are to their Lord.
