About the Book

This book has no other purpose than to make the rather difficult Epistle to the Romans more comprehensible — to inform the reader of what the apostle wrote. It is not advanced in the interests of any theological system; there is no theory to defend or meaning other than through impartial study to find out the meaning of Paul's language. The commentator, even more so than the preacher of the Gospel. He has a solemn obligation not to testify against the holy writer, not to misinterpret him, and not to impose personal views on his thoughts. The commentator's job is to follow the flow of the inspired text, measure its width and, if possible, depth, but not pave new channels for it or channel its flow into watering his own garden. This book is not a hasty product, but the result of many years of work. This book is the result of many years of study and discussion. Although the very words written by the apostle were examined and weighed one by one, the result is not presented in this form, nor with the slightest mention of Greek. There is a large class of educated people who, after all, can read comments in English with great pleasure and benefit. This book was created especially for them.
