About the Book
Anna Harriette Leonowens, British writer, traveler, educator and social activist of the Victorian era. This book is her memoir, which recounts her six years of experience in Siam (present-day Thailand) as a teacher to the children of King Mongkut of Siamese. This book details Siam and its royal court, where she worked during the 1860s. Here you can find a lot of information about the culture, traditions, history of Siam. The book also pays a lot of attention to her experience of communicating with local people, describing the places she visited. It is this book, published in 1870, that made Anna Leonowens famous. Based on these memoirs, books such as Anna and the King of Siam (1944) by Margaret Landon were written, as well as adaptations in the form of musicals and films.
