The book of Joshua - is a part of The Cambridge Bible for Schools and Colleges series, which was written by George Frederick Maclear,an English clergyman, theological writer and headmaster at King's College School, London (later Wimbledon). The book of Joshua is a book that is part of the Hebrew Bible (Tanakh) and the Old Testament. The first book of the Nevi'im section of the Hebrew Bible. Describes the history of the Jewish people from the death of Moses to the death of Joshua. According to Jewish tradition, the author of the book is Joshua himself (with the exception of the last lines that tell about his death and burial, which were completed by the prophet Samuel). It is placed after the Pentateuch of Moses, is in close connection with it and constitutes its continuation, so that some learned critics directly attribute it to this group of biblical books, which they therefore call "Hexateuch". The book tells about the conquest of Canaan by the Israelites under the leadership of Joshua and about the division of the Land of Israel between the tribes. It ends with a story about the last days and the death of the great leader. The whole book consists of twenty-four chapters and is divided into two main parts and an appendix. The book is a collection of reports from the battlefield, replete with stories that vividly characterize Jewish military law in antiquity.
