Book description

Simplified Method Of Tracing Rays Through Any Optical System Of Lenses, Prisms, And Mirrors - is a work, which was published in 1918 and written by Ludwik Silberstein. Ludwik Silberstein was a Polish-American physicist who helped make special relativity and general relativity the core subjects of university courses. The purpose of this volume is to outline a method for internal processing of the geometric optics of any given system, i.e. without introducing any artificial scaffolding and therefore without arbitrary separation of the entities involved in the problem of tracing a luminous ray through the several surfaces of the system. The resulting formulas, of course, in vector language as the only suitable means of internal expression, would then be free of any unnecessary elements, and hence, if eventually translated into some set of scalar formulas for the practical use of a numerical computer, would not will contain unnecessary geometric or arithmetic complications. The main goal is not to consider the entire subject of geometric optics, but exclusively or almost in that part of it, which is called the short name "ray tracing".
