This small book is a biographical memoir by George William Childs of Ulysses S. Grant, published in 1890. Childs was an American publisher and co-owner of the Philadelphia Public Ledger. Ulysses S. Grant was an American political and military leader and the 18th President of the United States. He led the Union Army during the American Civil War. The author of this book was a very close friend of Grant and knew him very well. They also owned neighboring summer homes in Long Branch, New Jersey. This book is a living portrait of Ulysses S. Grant written by his close friend.
