Problems And Exercises In Economics – is a book which was published in 1922 and written by H. Gordon Hayes, Professor of Economics, Ohio State University. Originally prepared for students at the University of Minnesota, this problem and exercise book has been extensively revised and expanded for this publication. It is designed to serve teachers and students studying basic economics by providing illustrative tasks and exercises in a user-friendly manner. It is believed that using such tasks will lead to the following results: 1. Illustrate the scientific principles and content of the text. 2. Provide a framework for classroom discussion and for students outside the classroom. 3. Encourage the student to think hard. 4. Encourage students to read more critically. 5. Stimulate interest in the subject. Several suggestions for a problem-solving method and scheme for preparing and labeling articles are included at the end of the book. It is recommended that teachers exercise caution in assigning tasks so that those that are too difficult for the student, or those for which assistance is not contained in the text or assigned reading, should be omitted. The outline of the book and the order of setting the objectives generally correspond to the Principles of Economics of Professor Seeger, which it is intended to accompany. Since the problems and exercises relate to general principles of economics, and not to the specific subject of the text, and since many of them contain most of the data needed to solve them, the book should be almost as well suited to accompany any other textbook.
