Practical Farm Drainage; a Manual for Farmer and Student – is a work which was published in 1908 and written by Charles Gleason Elliott. Land drainage is now gaining wider attention across the country than ever before. This interest is not limited, as it used to, to small farm owners or localities here and there, but farmers and landowners in many states and groups of states are actively involved in huge drainage projects, including those covering millions of acres. In the late 19th century, the author prepared Practical Draining of Agricultural Land to meet the urgent need for a simple guide to draining agricultural land. The value of insufficient drainage was just beginning to be appreciated at that time, but it was soon recognized as an important improvement in agricultural development. After an additional 25 years of experience, during which the author was closely associated with many and varied drainage projects throughout the United States, he completely rewrote the previous manual, updating it and adding a lot of valuable material.
