Our Land and Land Policy: Speeches, Lectures, and Miscellaneous Writings

This book consists of excerpts from various written and oral statements by Henry George that did not fit into book form. This volume does not claim to contain this entire class of his works. For such a publication, several such volumes are required. This volume is intended to include only such speeches, lectures, sermons, essays, and other writings that serve to demonstrate Henry George's varied abilities in language and pen, and set forth his philosophy of the natural order in many of its phases. The most important thing about this collection is how he opens Our Land and Land Policy, first presented to the public since its initial limited publication in 1871, when its author was known only as a newspaper writer in San Francisco. This material, along with other work, took four months to write and was Henry George's first attempt at laying out the foundations of his philosophy. In Progress and Poverty, the work was done more thoroughly eight years later. In this famous book, Our Land and Land Policy, acorns are associated with oak. Towards the end of his life, Mr. George decided to republish a small work, believing that it could interest many who at first would not have been covered by a large book.
