This biographical sketch series is part of the manuscript collection of the late James McBride of Hamilton. These unsightly sketches were composed mainly of memoranda, letters and diaries of people whose lives and adventures he so accurately described, some of them during his lifetime and with their approval. Many of the original documents from which they were compiled, and the first sketches of sketches, with notes in the margins of corrections and additions, are at our disposal, and we can attest to the scrupulous care and dedication with which he carried out his task. Some sketches are of comparatively little historical significance, since they contain nothing but personal family details; and while an apology may be required for including them in the Historical Books, they nonetheless have some value as the records of some of the oldest families of pioneers that might be sufficient reason for their publication. This second volume is the final one in the series. This volume provides sketches of biographies of such early settlers as: Robert McClellam, Isaac Paxton, Pierson Sayre, Henry Weaver, Jeremiah Butterfield, John Wingate, Daniel Doty, Matthew Hueston, Charles K. Smith, Captain John Cleves Symmes, John Sutherland, The Bigham Family, and Dr. Jacob Lewis.
