Life of Philip Melanchthon

Life of Philip Melanchthon - is a biographical book with many illustrations which was published in 1897 and written by Joseph Stump. Philip Melanchthon was a German humanist, theologian and teacher, evangelical reformer, systematizer of Lutheran theology, associate of Luther. The life of such an outstanding servant of God as Philip Melanchthon deserves to be known more than the average reader than it really is. During the great Reformation of the sixteenth century, his work was second only to Luther. However, his life is comparatively unknown to many reasonable Christians. The design of these pages is to present well-known facts from Melanchthon's career and pertinent excerpts from his writings to give a true picture of his life, character and work. In preparing this book, the author used a number of biographies of Melanchthon by German authors and other sources of information available to him. His goal was to prepare Melanchthon's short but complete enough life in a form that would interest people. The author sincerely wishes that these pages, at least to some extent, achieve their purpose and introduce the Christian reader to the work and merit of the man of God whom they are trying to portray.
