Book description
Jesus Christ the king of our hearts – is a religious work which was published in 1921 and written by Alexis-Henri-Marie Lépicier.
He was a French Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church, Prefect of the Sacred Congregation for Religious, and a member of the Servite Order.
On one occasion, the author was invited to preach a sermon on the Sacred Heart of Jesus in a church.
The opportunity arose at the unveiling of a statue intended to commemorate the dedication of local Catholic families to the Sacred Heart.
The author willingly responded to this gracious invitation and, desiring to instruct the faithful in the true meaning of their reverence, he began to study the inner meaning of this beautiful devotion, devotion, which has recently so miraculously spread throughout the world.
Indeed, the first thought that devotion to the Sacred Heart brings to our minds is the thought of infinite love on the part of our divine Redeemer.
It was this love that prompted Him to give Himself completely to us in His passions and death, as well as in the establishment of the Blessed Sacrament of the Altar.
It seemed to the author equally obvious that this devotion, although it reminds us of Jesus' love for us, is intended to inspire our hearts with the flame of mutual love, and this is especially manifested in imitation of those virtues that mainly adorn what a loving Heart is, the virtues of humility and mercy.
However, it seemed that more could be said about this devotion if only it was studied in connection with the Sacred Personality of our divine Redeemer.
In fact, looking at the nature of veneration for the Heart of Jesus in the dual light of faith and theology, the author found in it a newer and higher meaning, perhaps not as obvious as the first, but certainly no less true and appropriate.
