About the Book

Isaac ben Abraham Troki - Karaite polemic theologian, writer. The treatise "Hizuk Emunah" ("Faith Strengthened"), written in 1593, is the most famous work of Isaac ben Abraham Troki (Isaac of Troki). The work is presented in two volumes (the first volume is an apology for Karaimism, and the second is a criticism of Christianity), and a total of 99 chapters. Since Isaac of Troki did not manage to finish his work, the treatise "Hizuk Emunah" was completed by his student, Joseph Malinovsky Troki, who compiled the preface and index based on the written notes of the author and his oral remarks. This work enjoys exceptional reader success both among the Karaites, rabbinists, and - in three translations - among Christians. Perhaps it really was a written record of the author's real disputes with Christians, but it cannot be ruled out that it was the fruit of an armchair labor, which fully reflected the critical attacks and argumentation of both sides. This work immediately gained popularity, since at the same time it convincingly substantiated the dogma of the Karaite faith and carried out a calm and reasonable analysis of the "vulnerabilities" of Christian dogma. Isaac of Troki's awareness of the dogmatic differences between Catholics and Protestants is noteworthy.
