In this book Thomas Francis Googerty presents both methods and designs, as well as a wealth of practical information on the techniques of decorative ironwork. In his introduction Googerty explains that this book is primarily concerned with internal ironwork, but that it also shows design principles underlying all blacksmithing. He goes on to say that to make it easier for the novice to understand these principles, a number of drawings made by him during his teaching have been included in the text with instructions on how to make them. The author was one of the leading figures in this field, and he was responsible for establishing a school of decorative ironwork at the Arts and Crafts School in London.
