Diet & food considered in relation to strength & power of endurance, training & athletics – is a work which was published in 1901 and written by Alexander Haig, Scottish physician, vegetarianism and dietitian activist. He was also best known for pioneering the uric-acid free diet. In trying to change people's diets in such a way as to free them from poisonous xanthines and uric acid, the author was faced with such great ignorance and its results, prejudice and superstition that he had to write these pages in the hope of making more clearly the position taken by the diet in relation to these issues of strength and nutrition. According to the author, as soon as a clear knowledge of the facts is obtained and a practical and useful understanding of the subject is achieved, it will be unpleasant that in the diet lies the key to nine-tenths of the social and political problems of concern to our country and time. The diet currently used is often the result of a tremendous amount of ignorance; it is the reason for the horrendous waste of time and money; it generates mental and moral inclinations, destroys health and shortens life and, as a rule, does not fulfill its purpose at all. In the following pages, the author's goal was to show that he can be easily forced to fulfill his destiny, and that even with partial elimination of the ignorance that surrounds him, it is possible to prevent the waste of time and money, as well as prevent the occurrence of dangers to life and health. The author left the facts to speak for themselves, since they will be most fully understood by those who put them to the test of experience. This book consists of five illustrations and four chapters.
