Book description
Deafness and diseases of the ear – is a work which was published in 1873 and written by John Pyne Pennefather, Surgeon to the Royal Dispensary for Ear Diseases.
The goal of the author of this work was to produce a concise and readable book on the subject of Deafness and Ear Disorders.
Until now, education of medical students in the diagnosis and treatment of ear diseases has not received due attention.
In life, on many occasions, the practitioner has found that he does not understand how to treat such a disease when he is in his care - therefore, leaving a large field for the operations of quackery.
The author tried to avoid everything superfluous and reduced the number of illustrative cases to a minimum.
The details of many cases, in which there are many papers on special subjects, are of little practical value, except for the increase in the number of pages.
Where a simple term is appropriate, the author did not strain his brain and did not turn to the pages of his dictionary in search of a more learned phrase.
If the author, even to a very small extent, has advanced in the practice of the special surgical department in which he worked, and the following pages meet with the approval of the professional brothers, his work will be richly rewarded.
