Book description
Catalogue of coins in the Punjab museum, Lahore - catalogue modeled by Richard Bertram Whitehead, a British numismatist and an authority on Indian coins.
This volume describes the Collection of Indo-Greek Coins at the Lahore Museum, Punjab, India.
The author applied the term "Indo-Greek" to the Greek kings of Bactria and India, as well as their contemporaries and their closest successors in Northwest India, who minted money with legible Greek inscriptions.
These were the Indo-Scythian and Indo-Parthian dynasties, as well as the Great Kushans, up to Vasu Deva.
The coins in the Lahore Museum were in two separate collections.
One collection was the property of the government collection and the other was the Cabinet of Mr. C. J. Rodgers, a prominent figure in Indian numismatics, a collection that was acquired by the Punjab government.
The author hoped that the information contained in the text would be accurate and up-to-date.
In the main part of the catalog, items that deserve attention are marked.
The author tried to exclude forgeries.
One or two questionable coins that have been included are marked with an asterisk.
The catalog contains lists of coins not presented in the Museum, which are compiled by the author as completely as possible.
Additional plaques at the end of each section contain reproductions of important and interesting coins not found in this collection.
