Body Mechanics and Health

Body mechanics and health – is a work which was published in 1922 and written by Leah Coleman Thomas and Joel Ernest Goldthwait. According to the authors, the highest goal of physical education is the development of people most adapted to the conditions of modern civilization. If physical education is to achieve this goal, it must be presented on a more fundamental basis than it has been in the past. The authors came to this conclusion based on extensive observations and experience of physical fitness leadership in the school system with 2000 students. The authors are convinced that the day must come when the type of work described here will be better standardized and more widely accepted by physical directors and teachers. The same principles underlie the corrective and individual gymnastics taught by physiotherapists. When applied to large groups, it seems clear that normal growth and development can be effectively achieved with this specific approach to physical education. Body Mechanics and Health was written in the hope that it could be of practical use to many who lead the physical education of children in schools, and that through the application of these principles the importance of this message will gain wider acceptance.
