Bergen's Botany: Key And Flora, Pacific Coast Edition - is a book, which was published in 1901 and written by Alice Eastwood. Alice Eastwood was a Canadian-American botanist. She is credited with creating the botanical collection of the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco. She has published over 310 scientific papers and written 395 land plant species names, the fourth most such titles among female scientists. There are currently seventeen recognized species named in her honor, as well as the genera Eastwoodia and Aliciella. This volume Flora of the Pacific States has been compiled to enable students to gain a clear understanding of the method of plant classification based on practical experience in identifying the most common genera and species of the coast. It should serve as a guide for understanding the characteristics and relationships of large and important orders and genera and, to some extent, for species identification. The included species were most widely distributed or most numerous near large settlements, so that sufficient material for class study could easily be obtained. Species that cannot be clearly and easily identified have been omitted, even if they are numerous, to minimize the possibility of error. Where there is disagreement among botanists regarding generic names, both names are usually given, one in brackets.
