Book description

Asia at the door: a study of the Japanese question in continental United States, Hawaii and Canada – is a book which was published in 1914 and written by Kiyoshi Karl Kawakami. He was a Japanese Christian journalist who published several books in the United Kingdom and the United States. Kawakami was born in Yonezawa. He educated in the law in Japan, and was for a short time engaged in newspaper work in Japan. In this book the author gives a graphical account of Japanese life in contact with Caucasian, as well as vivid descriptions of his personal experiences and observations thus injecting intense human interest into a serious discussion of a vital problem confronting the Occident in general, and in particular the American people. He presents his facts in a lucid, fascinating style. In a sense the book is an interpretation of the Orient to the Occident, and a plea for the fraternity of the races and for international peace based upon justice and humanity.
