A Meditation on the Incarnation of Christ: Sermons on the Life and Passion of Our Lord and of Hearing and Speaking Good Words

This volume was published in 1907, written by Thomas à Kempis and translated by Dom Vincent Scully. This volume consists of three main blocks. “A Meditation on the Incarnation of Christ, According To the Testimonies of Holy Writ” includes 4 Thomas à Kempis' meditations on the testimonies of the Old and New Testaments. “Sermons on the Life and Passion of Our Lord, to wit, from the Advent of the Lord” includes 35 various sermons. After the sermons there is Thomas à Kempis' essay entitled “Hearing and Speaking Good Words.” The main goal was absolute fidelity to the thought, expression and, as far as possible, the style of the original. To this end, Vincent Scully underlined and twice underlined the words and passages noted by the author and reproduced in Dr. Paul's edition from the autographed manuscripts that have survived to this day. For the same reason, he followed, as far as the English idiom allowed, the author's peculiar punctuation, again just like his recent editor.
