A Lecture on the Historic Evidence of the Authorship and Transmission of the Books of the New Testament, Delivered before the Plymouth Young Men's Christian Association, October 14,1851

This lecture was written and delivered by Samuel Prideaux Tregelles. He was an English biblical scholar, theologian, lexicographer, Christian Hebraist and textual critic of the 19th century. The purpose of the next lecture is to present in an understandable and popular form an accurate presentation of historical evidence that allows us to speak with confidence about the authorship of the books of the New Testament, as well as describe the channels through which they were transmitted to us. These transmission channels themselves are important evidence of the books transferred. Covering the lecture, it was possible to outline some parts of the subject, therefore the author very briefly outlined those points on which no questions arise; and thus, in such parts, he indicated the evidence rather than presented it in detail. However, on those issues that are generally contested, the testimony was given with great accuracy.
