William Tassie
William Tassi (1777 - October 26, 1860) was a British gemstone engraver and cameo fashion designer of Scottish descent who worked in London in the early 19th century. He took over the business of his uncle, James Tassi, after the death of James in 1799. On January 28, 1805, Tassi won the Shakespeare Gallery of Boydell and her collection of paintings in the lottery to pay off the debts of its owner John Boydell. A Tassi ticket for three guineas received a grand prize among 22,000 sold. Boydell died shortly before the rally. His nephew Josiah Boydell offered to buy the gallery and her paintings from Tassi for £ 10,000, but Tassi refused and auctioned the paintings at Christie's. A collection of paintings and two reliefs by Anna Damer brought a total of 6,181 pounds. 6d. Tassi died in 1860 and is buried in the Brompton Cemetery in London.
