Walter Farquhar Hook


Walter Farquhar Hook (13 March 1798 to 20 October 1875), was known to contemporaries as Dr Hook. An eminent Victorian churchman, he became the Vicar of Leeds and was responsible for constructing the Leeds Parish Church and made many further ecclesiastical and social additions to the city in the mid-19th century. As a High Churchman and Tractarian in a non-conformist city his achievements were remarkable. He later became Dean of Chichester.
