Sydney J. Hickson
Sydney John Hickson (June 25, 1859 - February 6, 1940), was a British zoologist known for his pioneering studies in the fields of evolution, embryology, genetics, and taxonomy. Hickson traveled the Malay Archipelago in 1885-1886. He was appointed professor of zoology at the University of Manchester in 1894 and was elected by the Fed in 1895. The Manchester Museum has many coral samples from Sydney Hickson, a coral specialist. These include a number of sample names published by Hickson and others, including Stanley Gardiner. Hickson's documents are stored in the library of the University of Manchester. Hickson's daughter Sylvia Kema Hickson (married name Guthrie) became a pediatrician in Manchester.
