Rose Porter

Rose Porter

Rose Porter (December 6, 1845 - September 10, 1906) was an American novelist who wrote or edited more than 70 religious books. Her father, David Collins Porter, was a wealthy New Yorker who died in 1845, when Rose was still an infant. Her earlier years were spent in NYC and at the family's summer residence in Catskills-on-the-Hudson. Educated in NYC, with the exception of a year spent abroad, she and her mother later made their home in New Haven, Connecticut. When her mother died, Porter stayed at her New Haven home, where she lived together with her servants.
