Robert G. Ingersoll

Robert Green "Bob" Ingersoll ( August 11, 1833 – July 21, 1899) was an American writer and orator during the Golden Age of Free Thought who was nicknamed "The Great Agnostic" because of his campaigning in defense of agnosticism. He was born in Dresden, Yates County, NY. His father, John Ingersoll, was an abolitionist Congregationalist preacher whose radical opinions caused the family to have to frequently relocate.
