Noah Brooks


Noah Brooks (1830 to 1903) was a US journalist and editor who worked for newspapers in Sacramento, San Francisco, Newark NJ, and NYC. He authored a highly regarded biography of Abraham Lincoln which wasbased on his own close observations. Having been born in Castine, Maine, he later moved to Dixon, Ill., where in 1856 he became involved in the first Republican campaign for President. During that campaign he became a personal friend of Abraham Lincoln. In 1857 Brooks moved to Kansas as a "free state" settler. He soon moved back to Illinois and went to California in 1859.
