The descendants of William were among the first settlers of upstate New Hampshire. His childhood passed under the supervision of his mother, and she provided strict religious training. On November 1, 1836, he married Armenia S., the daughter of John Aldrich of Boscauen, New Hampshire, who survived him. Their children were John A. White, Armenia E. White, the wife of Horatio Hobbs, Lizzie H. White, Nathaniel White Jr. and Benjamin S. White, who survived. They lost two children - Annie Francis and Seldon F .; and received one, - Hattie S., wife of Dr. D.P. Dearborn, from Brattleboro, Vermont. In his youth, White joined the Independent Order of Strange Comrades. He did not belong to any other secret society. During the first four years of their family life, because of his occupation, they sat down. For eight years they lived on Warren Street. From 1848 until his death, they lived on School Street.
